Once you arrive at Descanso, you can park near the entrance to the Maple Room which is indicated by the letter ‘D’ in the map below.

Are children welcome?

Yup

What will we eat?

The menu will (probably) include coconut-avocado ceviche, artichoke with romesco, kale and citrus salad, potato au gratin, a three pea mélange, broccolini, eggplant parmesan, and pesto pasta. We will also have a curated collection of some of our favorite pies from Los Angeles. All food will be vegetarian.

Is it outside?

No. We’ll be inside the Maple Room at Descanso Gardens, with some activities on the patio

But can I go outside?

Yes! Guests will have access to the garden after the event until closing time (around 5pm)

You said there was a train?

Descanso Gardens has an Enchanted Railroad that operates from 8:30am – 12pm and from 2:30pm – 4pm (last we checked).

What else is there to see at Descanso?

December is not peak garden season, but there is a chance to see some early camellia blooms, some late fall foliage, gingko trees, and the succulents in the California garden. There are also holiday lights throughout the garden in the evening called the “Enchanted Forest of Light.” Admission to that event is not included in our event, so if you’d like to see that you should buy separate tickets. (The lights are there during the day too, they’re just not turned on so less pretty.)

What can I bring?

Yourselves!

What can’t I bring?

Descanso Gardens really, really doesn’t want us to have balloons. No balloons. Please don’t bring any balloons. Not the helium kind or the ones that make your cheeks hurt, or even water balloons.
Ditto on any type of open flame — so leave your candles at home.
Please don’t bring along anyone who isn’t part of your RSVP since there is a strict capacity limit at the venue.

Should I bring a gift?

It’s probably easiest for everyone if gifts are given through the registry rather than brought to the event. Unless it’s that antique heirloom china set that you’ve been meaning to pass down to a newborn. But that doesn’t sound like a great idea?

So there’s a registry?

Yes! If you’d like to shower our baby with presents, we have a registry at Amazon and Target

When is the baby due?

March 4th, but there is a strong contingent hoping for a Leap Day delivery. If we make it to March 14th, there will be so much pie in this baby’s future!

Is it a boy or a girl?

According to the DNA, boy.

Have you picked a name?

Nope. You can suggest a name here. We’ll also have a box where you can suggest a name. Who knows, you might be the one to give us the inspiration we need.

Do you know what your nursery will look like?

We’re planning a plant-themed nursery with a sage green color scheme, as you may have noticed on this site.
